and now for my rant

March 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

A friend from our web board recently received an email that really got me worked up. She and her husband are both on the pastoral staff of their church, and they’ve been trying to keep the church family up to date on adoption happenings. (They’re mid-process right now.) They’ve mentioned their financial need to people, […]

Post Adoption Depression

March 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments

I was getting ready to write a rant about an email a friend received, but I realized as I was thinking it through that a good portion of my rant would address PAD, or Post Adoption Depression, so I decided I should make a separate post on that first. Being part of the adoption community […]

That’s one in-depth update!

February 27th, 2008 · Comments Off on That’s one in-depth update!

For our first adoption, we had to complete a full home study. A home study is an incredibly detailed document created by a social worker in which she says whether or not she thinks you’re a fit family to adopt a child. Part of the home study has to do with whether or not you […]

And this morning we got the papers witnessed for the new adoption that needed to be witnessed, and I got them out in the mail this afternoon! One more step in the right direction! And the Lord provided the funds for this first installment towards the second adoption (an initial agency fee of $2500). We’re […]

We got the letters from the doctor supporting the birth date change yesterday, made it to the notary yesterday afternoon to sign the petitions, and I ran them plus all of the Ethiopian court document photocopies and copies of the birth certificates from Ethiopia to the court house this morning! What to do next?

February 24th, 2008 · Comments Off on What to do next?

Wow. We’re only in the beginning stages, and I’m already feeling lost in the paperwork! In some ways we don’t have as much this time since we don’t have to have a full home study done, just a home study update, but since we also have to finalize our first adoption we have some things […]

All encouragers, please use the front door!

Adoption, by nature, is one of those processes that you question any number of times along the way. Well, at least a lot of people do. Whether people approach adoption from the point of infertility and question whether they should have just kept trying, or whether you approach it as we are from a point […]

Oh, how I love legalese…

February 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Pardon me if this entry goes in circle. Eli is standing next to my chair saying, “Mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy…” It’s a little bit distracting. Oh, now he switched to, “Up up up up up…” So now he’ll be helping me type. 🙂 Here he is looking out from between Daddy’s knees: […]

Early Paper Chase & Jewelry Making

February 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment

It seems like things have changed a bit since our last adoption. I’m guessing part of that is because of the Hague Convention, and part may just be because the process was so young when we did our first adoption. The agency has been working in Ethiopia longer now and has ironed some things out, […]

We caught the disease…

February 18th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Yes, we’ve been accurately diagnosed. We suspected as much before, because we showed all the symptoms. First of all, we experienced heart palpitations and sometimes even breathing difficulties when thinking about orphaned children. Then we felt a strange magnetism towards Ethiopia from which we had gotten our first adopted children. Then we started feeling drawn […]
